Exploring Pitch & Glissando Through Movement

The slide flute offers a magical, visual demonstration of acoustics. Children physically see that extending the plunger lengthens the air column, lowering the pitch, while pushing it inwards shortens the column, creating high, chirping notes.

Key Educational Benefits

  • Auditory Pitch Discrimination: Trains the musical ear to distinguish between ascending and descending pitch gradients.
  • Bimanual Movement: Harmonises steady blowing with deliberate one-handed slide modulation.
  • Breath Control: Encourages steady lung capacity and oral motor coordination through playful sound exploration.

Craftsmanship & Specifications

  • Material: Smooth natural beech wood with a durable slide rod and child-safe finishes.
  • Dimensions: Approx. 16 cm extended; easy for small hands to hold and manoeuvre.
  • Recommended Age: Suitable for curious sound-makers aged 2 years and above.
